Why Use Point of Sale?

Not every angler books online ahead of time. Walk-up anglers, last-minute additions, and on-site purchases happen regularly. Guidewinds's point of sale system lets you accept card payments in person using Stripe Terminal hardware, keeping everything in one system.

Plan Requirement

Point of sale is available on the Enterprise plan. Stripe Terminal hardware must be purchased separately.

Stripe Terminal Setup

  1. Go to Dashboard → Settings → Payments → Point of Sale
  2. Click "Set Up Stripe Terminal"
  3. Order a Stripe Terminal reader from the Stripe Dashboard (BBPOS WisePOS E or Stripe Reader M2 recommended)
  4. Once the reader arrives, click "Register Reader" in Guidewinds
  5. Enter the reader's registration code (displayed on the device screen)
  6. Name the reader (e.g., "Front Desk", "Dock")

Pro Tip

The Stripe Reader M2 is battery-powered and portable — great for accepting payments at the dock, trailhead, or anywhere without a fixed checkout counter. The WisePOS E is better for a permanent front desk setup.

Registering Readers

You can register multiple readers and assign them to different locations or team members:

  • Naming: Give each reader a clear name so your team knows which one to use
  • Location: Assign readers to specific locations if you operate from multiple sites
  • Status: View which readers are online, offline, or need a software update from the POS settings page

Wi-Fi Required

Stripe Terminal readers need a Wi-Fi or ethernet connection to process payments. Make sure your readers can connect to the internet at your point of sale location.

Walk-Up Anglers

When a angler arrives without a booking:

  1. From the dashboard, click "New Walk-Up" or go to Dashboard → Bookings → New
  2. Select the trip and time slot
  3. Enter the angler's basic details (name, email or phone)
  4. Select "Pay at Terminal" as the payment method
  5. Choose your connected reader — the payment prompt appears on the device
  6. The angler taps, inserts, or swipes their card

Unified Records

Walk-up bookings appear in your dashboard alongside online bookings. Revenue, analytics, and angler records are all in one place.

Processing Add-Ons & Tips at Check-In

When anglers arrive for their booking, you can collect additional payments:

  • Add-ons: If the angler wants to add extras (upgraded gear, additional guests, photo packages), add them from the booking detail page and process the difference at the terminal.
  • Balance due: If the angler paid a deposit online, collect the remaining balance in person.
  • Tips: Enable tip prompts on the terminal so anglers can add a tip during checkout. Tips are tracked separately in your reports.

Pro Tip

Enable suggested tip amounts (15%, 20%, 25%) on the terminal screen.Anglers are more likely to tip when presented with easy options.

Receipt Configuration

Configure how receipts are delivered to anglers:

  • Email receipt: Sent automatically if the angler's email is on file (recommended)
  • SMS receipt: A text message with a receipt link
  • Printed receipt: Available if you have a compatible receipt printer connected to the WisePOS E reader
  • No receipt: Skip receipt delivery for quick transactions

Set your default receipt method from Dashboard → Settings → Payments → Receipts.
