What Are Smart Suggestions?

Smart Suggestions are AI-generated recommendations that appear in your dashboard when Guidewinds detects an opportunity to improve your business. Instead of sifting through data yourself, the system continuously analyzes your bookings, revenue, and angler patterns to surface specific, actionable advice.

Each suggestion includes what to do, why it matters, and a direct link to take action. You decide which suggestions to follow — they're recommendations, not automatic changes.

Professional Plan Feature

Smart Suggestions are available on Professional plans and above. The system needs at least 2 weeks of booking data before it starts generating meaningful recommendations.

What Triggers a Suggestion

Guidewinds monitors several signals to generate relevant suggestions:

Low Booking Volume

When certain days or time slots consistently have low fill rates, you might see suggestions like "Tuesdays are 60% below your weekly average — consider a midweek promotion or reduced pricing to fill these slots."

Pricing Opportunities

If your trips are booking out far in advance for certain dates, the system may suggest raising prices for peak demand periods. Conversely, if prices seem to be a barrier on slower days, it might recommend a discount strategy.

Seasonal Patterns

Based on historical data, the system recognizes seasonal trends and prompts you to prepare. For example: "Last year, bookings dropped 40% in November. Consider launching an off-season promotion by mid-October."

Angler Behavior

Suggestions can also come from angler patterns:

  • High repeat-angler rate — consider a loyalty program
  • Many group bookings — add a group discount or larger-capacity trip
  • Abandoned bookings at the payment step — review your pricing or deposit amount

Trip Performance

The system identifies which trips are your top performers and which are underperforming. You might see: "Your Full-Day Trip has a 95% fill rate but your Half-Day Trip is at 30%. Consider adjusting the Half-Day schedule or pricing."

Pro Tip

Don't ignore suggestions about underperforming trips. Sometimes a small pricing adjustment or schedule change can dramatically improve fill rates without adding any marketing effort.

Viewing Your Suggestions

Smart Suggestions appear in two places:

  1. Dashboard home: A suggestions card shows your most recent recommendations when you log in
  2. Dedicated page: Go to Dashboard → Insights → Suggestions to see all current and past suggestions

Each suggestion shows a title, explanation, expected impact, and an action button that takes you to the relevant setting or page.

Acting on Suggestions

When you see a suggestion you want to follow:

  1. Click the suggestion to expand the full details
  2. Review the recommendation and the data behind it
  3. Click the action button (e.g., "Adjust Pricing," "Create Promotion," "Update Schedule")
  4. You'll be taken to the relevant settings page to make the change

Suggestions Are Guidance, Not Commands

Smart Suggestions are based on data patterns, but you know your charter best. A suggestion to lower prices on a slow day might not make sense if that day is slow because you intentionally limit availability. Always apply your own judgment.

You can dismiss suggestions you don't find relevant by clicking "Dismiss." Dismissed suggestions won't reappear, and the system learns from your preferences over time.

How Suggestions Improve Over Time

The more data Guidewinds has, the better your suggestions become:

  • 2 weeks: Basic suggestions about pricing and availability patterns
  • 1 month: Angler behavior insights and trip performance comparisons
  • 3+ months: Seasonal trend predictions, repeat-angler analysis, and revenue forecasting

Your Data Stays Private

Smart Suggestions are generated using only your own charter data. Your information is never shared with other captains or used to train models on competitors' data. The AI analyzes your patterns in isolation.

Common Suggestion Types

Here are the most frequent suggestions captains see:

  • Pricing adjustments: Raise or lower prices based on demand patterns
  • Schedule optimization: Add or remove time slots to match angler demand
  • Marketing timing: Best times to send campaigns or launch promotions
  • Trip improvements: Update descriptions, add photos, or adjust capacity
  • Re-engagement: Reach out to past anglers who haven't rebooked
  • New trip ideas: Gaps in your offerings based on angler search patterns and requests

Pair with Dynamic Pricing

If you frequently see pricing-related suggestions, consider enabling Dynamic Pricing to automate those adjustments. Smart Suggestions tell you what to change — Dynamic Pricing can handle it automatically.
